Were you lucky enough to have a grandmother with a buttery full of
canned food? Do you know why they had pantries full of food? Because shit
happens and they were ready for it. Whether it was getting snowed in,
natural disaster or crop failure, they were ready. Why is it so unbelievable
for us to do that now? Why are people so resistant to preparing for any crisis?
When you cite to friends or family that they should be storing food they
look at you like you just sprouted a second head. Take a look at your grocery store
receipts, food prices are continuing their swift climb upward and major
retailers on both coasts are qualifying customers’ purchases of flour, rice and
cooking oil. Every food item containing wheat is expected to make a huge
climb in price due to crop failures this year.
How much food do you have in your cupboards? How long could you
feed your family if there was an emergency? There is only approximately
two days worth of food in your local grocery store for the local population
and in an emergency the store shelves empty in hours, just look at areas
where there are hurricanes. Are you going to wait until the last minute to
run to the store and stock up on necessities and be satisfied with what you
manage to get or are you going to start preparing now and have what you
need, not just what you can get?
Preparing for the unexpected doesn’t mean it will happen but when
something does, then you, like your grandparents are prepared. It’s just good
common sense to have at least a years supply of storable food.
I purchased storable food from http://patriotfood.com/ and was
delighted with the quality, taste and price. Their food has no MSG and is
only 15 cents per serving. As a bonus they give you 50 varieties of heirloom
seeds so you can continue to feed your family.
